What Now

July 29th, 2007 at 04:59 pm

Iíve been thinking about where my life is headed. I have a good job. I work three days a week. I get up at 4:30 in the morning and work until 6 pm. It is repetitive with occasional bouts of stress. I have some good days and some days I canít even tolerate it. I feel like a drone. I work, come home to my apartment, eat, sleep and do it again tomorrow. I really canít see myself doing this another 10, 20 or even 30 years.

So the question to ask is: whatís next? What do I want to accomplish next?

Setting goals will help give me some aim. Itís like a game and games make life fun. What I need are some long/short term goals. Here are a few things Iíd like to do:

ē Become a homeowner
ē See the world
ē Write a book

Right now, Iím right where I planned to be. This was my vision. I think anything can be accomplished if I have a clear picture of what I want in my head. Overall, the most important goal is happiness. The main thing to overcome: fear.

Iíd like to add becoming financially independent to that list. Then Iíd be free. I am so sick of getting up at 4:30 in the morning. In addition to that, Iím sick of all the b.s. I have to deal with at work. I just read that there is no such thing as job security. Social security is going bankrupt and many people will not have enough money to retire. So what now?

well, you can start on the book now! Set a writing schedule/goal for yourself (even if it's just blogging.) The more you write, the better writer you'll become, and you'll be on the way to the book! Smile

I am with annab - start writing now - join a writers' group at your local community college - you will then have to write a certain amount each week to share. the feedback you will receive will be invaluable. you will find other like-minded people who will motivate you. maybe see about per diem work at a hospital or nursing home. you'll be able to make good money and maybe be able to give up your other job which is causing stress.

Where do you work as a nurse? A local hospital? VA Hospital? Nursing home?

The reason i'm asking is cus nursing is probably one of the best career fields to be in these days. There's a shortage now, and even greater shortgage projected in coming years. And the pay is getting better, right?

What i'm getting at is with demand and job growth like that, you should be able to have your pick of jobs and be able to demand a few concessions, like reasonable hours.
